
Jessica Michelle Chastain (born March 24, 1977) is an American actor and producer. Her films that are centered around the theme of women are her mainstay. She has won numerous honors, including an Academy Award as well as a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine listed her as one of the 100 most influential persons around the globe in 2012. Chastain was a keen actor since her early years. She made her professional stage debut in the role of Shakespeare's Juliet in 1998. After completing her acting studies at the Juilliard School, she was hired to a talent holding agreement with television producer John Wells. She was frequently a guest on numerous television shows and also played a variety of roles in stage productions. Chastain made her debut film in Jolene (2008) aged 31. She went on to release six films in 2011 with the most notable being The Tree of Life (2011) and Take Shelter (2011). She was nominated for Academy Award nominations as a part of The Help (2011), in which she played an aspiring socialite, and Zero Dark Thirty (2012) as an analyst for the CIA analyst. The science-fiction films Interstellar (2014) & The Martian (2015) were commercially more successful than the horror film It Chapter Two (2019). The strong-willed character of Chastain in dramas The Most Valuable Year (2014), Miss Sloane (2016), Molly's Game (2017) and Scenes from a Marriage (2021) were also highly acclaimed. In the role of Tammy Faye Bakker, she received the Academy Award for Best Actress and Tammy Wynette in The Eyes of Tammy Faye (21), respectively. Chastain is the creator of the production firm Freckle Films, which was founded to encourage diversity in film, and is an investor in the soccer club Angel City FC. She has a strong voice on mental health issues as the issue of gender and race equality. Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo (fashion executive) is her husband.
