Despacito is a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee became the song most streamed at the time in less than six months. The single Despacito, which combines reggaeton and pop, not only brought new interest to reggaeton but also increased interest in Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish generally, and four tracks in the year 2016. In 2017, at the height of popularity for Despacito, 19 tracks mainly in Spanish made it to the Top 100. The year 2020 will see it will have 41 hits within this genre. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with an English version in the year 2017. In the year following, famous artists started working with reggaeton acts. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny for the production of MIA (2018) and Madonna worked on Medellin together with Maluma (2019). Reggaeton's mainstreaming was an issue for some artists during the year 2020. Rauw alejandro and a young generation, however, determined to maintain the style. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, and different styles was an accepted practice.
